Hyderabad, PTI. An ex-serviceman has been arrested for allegedly planning the June 17 arson at Secunderabad railway station. Telangana Railway Police gave this information on Saturday. On June 17, one person was killed and several others were injured in alleged police firing on protesters at the railway station here. The arson was part of the large-scale violence over the agitation against the center’s Agneepath recruitment scheme.

The accused runs a coaching institute

According to the police, Avula Subba Rao and three of his associates have been arrested in this case. Subba Rao, who previously worked as a nursing assistant in the Army, now runs the Sai Defense Academy at Narasaraopeta in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The accused allegedly took a bond of Rs 3 lakh from those who had joined his institute for providing coaching for recruitment in the army.

Academies were afraid of losing business

Police allege that Subba Rao and other academies feared losing business with the implementation of the Agneepath scheme. “They designed this violence and instigated the candidates of the army as the defense academies would be in danger of closure due to the Agneepath scheme. This was going to inflict heavy losses on them. According to the information, to get the Agneepath scheme back and to influence the Government of India, he took the support of the agitators.
